No evidence of increased blood clot risk from vaccine, says AstraZeneca

AstraZeneca Plc has stated that a review of safety data of individuals vaccinated with its COVID-19 vaccine revealed no evidence of elevated risk of blood clots.

The review included over 17 million people who have been vaccinated in the United Kingdom and European Union. A review of available safety data from these people does not show any evidence of a heightened risk of pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis or thrombocytopenia, in any specific age group, gender, batch or in any specific country, stated the company. 

European Medicines Agency had stated that there was no indication that the events were caused by the vaccination, and the World Health Organization had also supported the view… (Reuters, March 15, 2021)
